What Out Customers Say:

I am in ninth grade and began reading in kindergarten with Bob Books. I didn't know that I could. I just picked up the book and started reading. It has given me a great start and I haven't stopped in the nine years since.

Giving Special Ed Kids a Chance

I am so glad Bob Books Reading Magic #2 is coming. [ed. Its here!]

I do work in the public schools in Washington State. I work in a little rural district as a special education teacher...mostly preschool and early elementary, and I work as an itinerant teacher of blind and visually impaired students birth to 21 through an Outreach program administered by Washington State School for the Blind.

[Our School] District has fewer than 500 students K-12. We have a few district iPads mostly for use in sped classrooms with students with autism.

I bought my own iPad and spent uncountable hours looking at articles on the net, browsing the app store and reading reviews on each app that looked like a possibility. I loaded free apps first and then started trying out apps in the .99, then 1.99, then eventually (after biting my lip) jumped to 2.99 and beyond.

Bob Books was the first I found that was truly accessible and that provided growing room and remains the best so far. I have been flipping out my iPad and showing whoever will stop and look. I go to Bob Books first because it is beautiful and fun and even the very skeptical are quick to reach for the iPad and ask if they can try.

Here is the thing....it might be a bit hard for a school board member or a certain administrator to figure out why/how they should invest in a student who can't hold their head up and who drools...but when they watch that same student complete a BB #1 page in 3 minutes by repeating letter sounds and dragging letters into their appropriate places with a knuckle and then beam and say "I did it!" Well, it all becomes very clear. It kind of puts us all on a more equal footing.

Hope this helps.

Bob Books [you] are highly appreciated. Keep those superlative quality, reasonably priced apps coming.  We love them!

Please Make More Apps!

Dear Bob Books,

Oh you better, BETTER, BETTER put more apps out there. I got the app, and can I tell you? My son LOVES it.

At 18 months he had letter recognition and sound correspondence. Show him an A and he would say... ay, ah. B and he would say... bee, buh. Then he stalled OUT. Now he is almost 5 and about to start kindergarten. He purposefully stalled too, not wanting to "perform" for mommy. UPK has been great for rhyming, and writing, BUT my stinker CLAIMS he can't read.

We have the WORLD WORLD apps too. I enjoy those and those got my son hooked on iPhone apps, but as a former teacher (Latin) I had problems with the fact that he could pick the letters in any order and it would reorder for him.

In your BOB app, the first time through, I noticed that he could pick the letters in any order so long as he placed them in the correct order and I thought... hmmm... well maybe it is the best they can do. Then on our second go round, my son suddenly said, "Hey, it is not letting me play and mess up the order." Inside I said, "Good for you BOB!"

Then the boxes appeared but without the shadow letters to guide him. He said, "hey, mommy you just made this harder." I said, "Nope not me. Apparently it thinks it has been too easy on you and is making it harder on its own." Then he had to touch the words big and got! WOW... AWESOME!

BRAVO for the graded and leveled steps. He ADORED the app. I need more apps... more apps soon! PLEASE!!!
